Our Stories

Mom’s Kitchen Genius

Our mom had a mission: to keep us away from fast food joints. So, armed with a tiny electric tabletop stove, she whipped up homemade delicacies for everyone—our aunts, uncles, cousins, and even family friends. The tantalizing aroma of her Pollo Guisado (Stewed Chicken) and Moro de Guandules (Rice with Pigeon Peas) filled the bodega, piquing the curiosity of our customers.

Mom’s warm heart extended to those curious souls. She’d offer them a taste of her freshly cooked delights. Little did we know that these humble beginnings would ignite a culinary revolution.

From Bodega to Culinary Tradition

After a few weeks, Mom had what proved to be a great idea: why not sell her food? Despite lacking restaurant experience, her Dominican flavors proved irresistible. The bodega couldn’t compete, and soon we needed more space. Families traveled from as far as Frederick, Maryland, craving the taste of home. Our demand for rice skyrocketed from 25 pounds a week to a whopping 300-400 pounds, including our catering events.

Now, Los Hermanos is a prominent culinary haven for Dominicans and Dominican food lovers in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. The demand has been so wonderfully overwhelming that we have opened a second location, Mecho’s Dominican Kitchen with a moniker that honors our mom as we continue to bring our diners our true Dominican flavors.
